Albert Brenet More Prints
French, 1903-2005
Albert Brenet, who recently celebrated his hundredth birthday, is surely the last of the true adventurers, having spent his life sailing the oceans of the world as the French Navy's official artist.
He was born in Harfleur, near Le Havre, in 1903, and 'at home, the talk was always about the wind, the sea, and the ships'. Then there were the three-masters with their exotically perfumed cargoes of spices and coffee.
The turning point in his life came when he first caught sight of the Bonchamp, one of the last three-masters to ply the seas, built at the turn of the century. As the crew was two men short, Albert gained a place on board and spent the next seven months sailing 'as they did in Colbert's day' - no electricity and just two buckets of freshwater per man per week. In between manning the rigging, he captured every instant of life on board, even in the roughest of seas.
From that moment on, Albert painted and drew everything that moved, from the firemen of Los Angeles to the feria in Seville, and, of course, a whole armada of ships. He became one of the Navy's official painters in 1936.
Albert thrilled to the sights of the Orient - the mosques of Iran, the souks of Tunisia - and was endlessly fascinated by the quality and continuity of Japanese civilization. Now enjoying a peaceful and well-deserved retirement south of Paris, Albert is the only artist ever to have been granted specialties in all three services - Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Three exhibitions are being staged to mark Albert Brenet's hundredth birthday - in Perros-Guirec (Côtes-d'Armor), Le Havre, and Paris, at the Musée de la Marine.

Hidden Cities I / second state
By Peter Milton
Located in New York, NY
“Hidden Cities I : The Ministry. Second State.”
Contemporary artist Peter Milton created this etching and engraving in 2006. The printed image size is Image size 23.50 x 36.88 inches and the paper size is 31 x 42 inches. This impression is signed, dated, and titled in pencil and inscribed “11/75” – the 11th impression from the total printing of 75.
“I do love to draw. I feel that I am being granted membership in the Brotherhood of Merlin, conjuring forth some apparition. As a drawing develops, I sense a vague presence coming more and more into focus, something in a white fog emerging and becoming increasingly palpable.” – P. Milton, “The primacy of touch. The Drawings of Peter Milton”
“Working in layers, Milton begins with drawings based on people and places, with nods to Western art history and culture. He is a master of the appropriated image, a term that may conjure Andy Warhol and his Pop Art comrades. But Milton steps further back in history, avoiding the Pop sense of cool advertising and popular culture references. Instead, a broader cultural past is tapped through historical photographs of key players, architecture, and locales, which he reinvents by hand. He adds content drawn from his life as an avid reader – always with multiple possible interpretations – thus incorporating deeper meaning in his cinematic worlds. Elements of Greek mythology, classical music, art history, and history coalesce in his images, which embrace the messiness, sorrow, and elation that is life. One is hard-pressed to imagine a more erudite, skilled, passionate, and cheeky soul.
In addition to a storied career in printmaking, since 2007 Milton has fearlessly produced artwork digitally. He now creates images using Adobe Photoshop in files consisting of more than two thousand layers, which are printed both as digital prints on paper and, for display on Led light boxes...

Brandywine Farm Collotype Lithograph Hand Signed Henriette Wyeth Americana Art

Henriette Wyeth Hurd (1907 – 1997) was an American artist noted for her portraits and still life paintings. The eldest daughter of illustrator N.C. Wyeth, she studied painting with her father and brother Andrew Wyeth at their home and studio in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
Henrietta Wyeth was born in Wilmington, Delaware, into an artistic family. Wyeth was the eldest of the five children of noted illustrator N.C. Wyeth and his wife Carolyn Bockius. Her siblings Carolyn and Andrew also became artists, and all three studied with their father. Andrew Wyeth became the most well-known artist of this family.
Henriette contracted polio at age 3, which altered her health and use of her right hand. As a result, she learned to draw with her left hand and paint with her right. She grew up on the family farm in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and attended local Quaker schools. She and her siblings were eventually homeschooled because their father distrusted the public school system. She began formal art lessons with her father at age 11, making charcoal studies and geometric shapes.
A child prodigy, at age 13 Wyeth was enrolled in the Normal Arts School in Boston, Massachusetts. The next year, in 1921, she entered the Boston Museum of Art Academy. Two years later she moved to Philadelphia to study painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. By age 16, she was well known as a portraitist and received commissions for paintings of Wilmington residents. Deeply influenced by her father's unique realistic style, she rejected early 20th-century painting styles such as Impressionism and Cubism. She was also socially and politically conservative. As a result, later in life she rejected the progressive movements of the 1960s and 1970s, including the women's movement. She often criticized television and modern culture.
At age 21, in 1929 Wyeth married artist Peter Hurd, a fellow student at the Pennsylvania Academy and her father's apprentice. The couple had three children together: Peter Jr., Carolyn, and Michael Hurd...
