Alberto Chiancone was an Italian painter. Born in Porto Santo Stefano in Tuscany, he moved to Naples when he was an adolescent. He enrolled at the Regio Istituto d’Arte, working under Lionello Balestrieri. Chiancone earned a diploma in Decorative Painting and Graphic Arts in 1923. In the same year, he also won an award at the Mostra Internazionale di Arti Decorative Biennale of Monza. Chiancone collaborated with a group of artists calling themselves the Gruppo degli Ostinati (Group of Obstinates), including Balestrieri, Franco Girosi, Giovanni Brancaccio, Eugenio Viti, and Francesco Galante, meeting at the Caffè Tripoli at Piazza del Plebiscito. In 1929, he participated at the first Fascist Union’s Show of Campania and the International Exposition of Barcelona. Chiancone exhibited regularly at the Venice Biennale from 1930–48.

The scene is set in a port, portrays men, probably fishermen, sitting around a wooden table, intent on talking to each other, perhaps exchanging information on their fishing day.
Many of the works created by the artist are set in ports, beaches or more generally in seascapes. In fact, Chiancone, born in Porto Santo Stefano, also lived in Naples, a city from which he surely drew inspiration for many of his works.

Derrière le miroir:
In October 1945 the French art dealer Aimé Maeght opens his art gallery at 13 Rue de Téhéran in Paris. His beginning coincides with the end of Second World War and the return of a number of exiled artists back to France.
The publication was created in October 1946 (n°1) and published without interruption until 1982 (n°253). Its original articles and illustrations (mainly original color lithographs by the gallery artists) who were famous at the time.
The lithographic publication covered only the artists exhibited by Maeght gallery either through personal or group exhibitions. Among them were, Pierre Alechinsky, Francis Bacon, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Eduardo Chillida, Alberto Giacometti, Vassily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Saul Steinberg and Antoni Tapies.
