Ceramic artist Raija Tuumi (1923–2016) represents a generation of artists who, after the war, helped make Finland’s art industry internationally famous. The ceramic artists and their visibility at international exhibitions played a significant role in putting Finnish art on the world map. Raised in Kiukais in Satakunta, Finland, Raija Tuumi first discovered artistic expression through weaving. However local potters, raised her interest in an alternative material.
After many different phases in her life Tuumi ended up studying in Ateneum’s ceramics department between 1946 and 1949, during which she found her own strong style. The students’ training included periods in workshops in Finland, where she encountered potters’ large dough and butter milk pots and other dishes that inspired Tuumi to work on large sculptural objects.
Tuumi studied in the ceramics department along side with other ceramisist, including Ulla Procopé, Annikki Hovisaari, Dorrit Flinckenberg, Vuokko Eskolin...

Toini Muona (1904-1987) was one of the most respected art ceramists and trendsetters in Finnish ceramic art and art industry in the 1930s–1950s. Her artworks represent clean modern reduced forms and motives taken from finnish nature.
Toini Muona studied sketch drawing at the Central School of Fine Arts from 1923 to 1926 and postgraduate ceramics from 1926 to 1923. In the meantime, she worked as a textile designer at Atelier Vigli from 1929 to 1931, then moved to the Arabian Art Department, where she worked until 1970. In the same year, he received the Finnish National Award for Industrial Arts.
Toini Muona was a skilled wheel-thrower who, especially early in her career, created vases, jars, and objets d'art influenced by old Chinese ceramics...

A delicate "rice grain" bowls designed by the Finnish artist Friedl Holzer Kjellberg using an 18th century Chinese decorating technique. Small incisions are made in the porcelain that resemble rice. Her work was very popular and continued to be made at Arabia from circa 1942-1974.
