Brendan Neiland More Prints

b. 1941

Brendan Neiland was born on 23 October 1941 in Lichfield, Staffordshire. Neiland has been interested in architectural subjects his whole life. His distinctive paintings contain generally quite stark buildings but softened by reflections in water or in the glass. With effective use of light, made mysterious through reflection and distortion, he presents familiar structures in a new and romantic fashion. In 1991, Neiland was commissioned by InterCity to create a series of five posters in honor of the electrification of the East Coast Main Line. Neiland also produced posters for the new InterCity line to the West Country and also for the Highland Lines for Scotrail. Elected in 1992 to the Royal Academy, he was appointed Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools in 1998 and was credited with revitalizing what had been a struggling art school. In 2004, he was expelled from the RA under circumstances believed to relate to an internal power struggle. Fellow Academician Sir Peter Blake resigned from the Academy in protest at Neiland's expulsion.

Bright Vibrant Pop Art Silkscreen Lithograph Print NYC Abstract Expressionist
By William Scharf
Located in Surfside, FL
Red Angel, intensely and seductively colored: swooning purples and reds, ecstatic lemon yellows, and black construction paper. Jostling shapes, geometric and biomorphic, lyrical and hard-edged, refuse to resolve neatly Assemblage, a bold strategy to keep viewers unsettled and curious, the reward for which are profuse and luscious details: varied incidents of refinement, suggestive signs, most in a private code, not merely ornamental but integral to the overall message. William Scharf (born 1927, Media, PA) is an American artist from New York, he teaches at The Art Students League of New York. Painting with acrylics, he was a member of the New York School movement. Often categorized as a late generation Abstract Expressionist, Known for producing paintings with abstract compositions incorporating biomorphic and geometric forms in vivid colors, the artist was influenced by Surrealism, the Color Field painters, and symbolism. He apprenticed with Mark Rothko and was influenced by his color field paintings. The surrealist painter Arshile Gorky and the Abstract expressionism style found in 1950s New York City also influenced Scharf. His exhibits include San Francisco Art Institute (1969), the Pepperdine University's Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art (2001), and Richard York Gallery in New York City (2004). In the heyday of Abstract Expressionism, being serious meant following the tenets of the New York School, which required abstract paintings to be spontaneous improvisations, the messier the better. At once hedonistic and disciplined, his brazen paintings are nothing if not promiscuous. The best ones mix the dynamism of gestural abstraction with sensual rhythms of decorative patterning, sometimes souping up the stew with cartoonish symbols and flourishes so ripe they belong in a dandy's fantasies. His exhibits include San Francisco Art Institute (1969), the Pepperdine University's Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art (2001) and Richard York Gallery in New York City (2004). Scharf's work has been exhibited in a number of galleries, including the Anita Shapolsky Gallery, Meredith Ward Fine Art, and Hollis Taggart Galleries in New York City. Scharf has been an instructor of art at various institutions including The Art Students League, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the School of Visual Arts in New York. He is a member of the Society of Illustrators and the Artists Equity Association. Homer
By Valerio Adami
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Homer" 1979 is an original colors serigraph on Stonehenge Wove paper by noted Italian artist Valerio Adami, b.1935. It is hand signed and numbered 6/75 in pencil by the artist. Published by Editions Press, San Francisco. The image size is 37.5 x 21.75 inches, framed size is 45.75 x 29.15 inches. Custom framed in a metal gold frame, with beige fabric matting. The artwork is in excellent condition, the frame is in very good condition, it has some minor scratches. About the artist: Valerio Adami was born in Bologna. In 1935, at the age of ten, he began to study painting under the instruction of Felice Carena. He was accepted into the Brera Academy (Accademia di Brera) in 1951, and there studied as a draughtsman until 1954 in the studio of Achille Funi. In 1955 he went to Paris, where he met and was influenced by Roberto Matta and Wifredo Lam. His first solo exhibition came in 1959 in Milan. In his early career, Adami's works were expressionistic, but by the time of his second exhibition in 1964 at Kassel, he had developed a style of painting reminiscent of French cloisonnism, featuring regions of flat color bordered by black lines. Unlike Gauguin, however, Adami's subjects were highly stylized and often presented in fragments, as seen in Telescoping Rooms (1965). In the 1970s, Adami began to address politics in his art, and incorporated subject matter such as modern European history, literature, philosophy, and mythology. In 1971, he and his brother Gioncarlo created the film Vacances dans le désert. In 1974 he illustrated a Helmut Heissenbuttel poem, Occasional Poem No. 27.
