Gorgeous late 19th Century landscape of cows near watering hole with birch trees and puffy clouds in background by Wesley John Straight (American, 1855 - 1922). Signed lower left corner and on verso. Title "Autumn in New England" on verso lower stretcher bar. Condition: Good; professionally cleaned and restored; minor abrasions repaired and in-painted (see images). Unframed. Image size: 40"H x 32"W. Born in Wisconsin on May 20, 1855. Straight appears to have migrated to northern California in the late 1870s. While a resident of San Jose and Grass Valley, he painted scenes of the northern coast and other scenic spots. After moving to southern California in 1912, he lived at the Southern Hotel in San Bernardino until his demise on April 5, 1922. This was taken from a plein aire painting near the castle where V....Vaughan was giving a workshop in 2022. 18 x 22 framed. V....Vaughan is know for her animal, Texas missions Italy, France and Gulf Coast paintings. . Also shown in photos are other paintings by in the "Small Works" collection. Photos were taken to show the detail of each painting. Her paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Gadsen Museum of Art, the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art and the Great Plains Art Museum as well as in countless private collections. In the fall 2023 she will teach a workshop at a castle in France, where artists will stay and enjoy the southern French food and scenes. Vaughan (the first initial stands for Virginia) describes her drive to create fine art. “It’s a calling,” she says of her life’s work, which has taken several twists and turns but has, nevertheless, led her down the path toward fulfillment. A lifelong Texan, Vaughan grew up in the Austin area and today makes her home in Round Rock, a suburb of the capital city. As a child, she exhibited a love of making art and played the role of the creative one among the seven children in her family, eventually working for several of her siblings as a sign painter and designer. Her parents forever encouraged her to appreciate and mine her passion, instilling in her that it was not simply a passing fancy, but an innate gift. “It was always conveyed to me that this was a God-given talent,” she says. Somehow that made me feel like it was something I was supposed to do. It gave me permission to pursue it. Vaughan attended college on an athletic scholarship, though she filled her schedule with art classes and subsequently secured an internship at an advertising agency. That introduction to the corporate world set her off in a new direction—she left school to parlay the summer job into a full-time position. She continued to work as a commercial artist for many years after that, winning several prestigious ADDY Awards and working on high-profile accounts for Samsung, the Lady Bird Johnson...

Chuck Mauldin Born 1949 Fredericksburg Artist Image Size: 18 x 14 Frame Size: 22 x 18 Medium: Oil "Spring In Her Step" Cattle Landscape Texas A native of Texas, Chuck Mauldin has been painting in oil since the age of twelve. His interest in watercolor and pencil drawing grew during his years spent in Louisiana. With his move back to Texas, he has renewed his focus on oil painting, using this medium in a realistic yet painterly style. Striving to quickly capture color and mood with a direct "alla prima" technique is one of his main objectives in painting outdoors on-location. Cows, cowboys and Native Americans often enrich the landscape in his studio work, while anything can inspire his plein air paintings. Workshops with Charles Sovek, Kevin Macpherson, and many others have played a significant role in his development as an artist. He is a member of Oil Painters of America and has achieved Signature membership status in the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the Plein Air Artists of Colorado. Chuck has won numerous awards and has had work accepted into prestigious national juried competitions, such as the Oil Painters of America National Show (2020, 2021), Western Regional Show (2016, 2021, 2022) and Salon Show (2016, 2020). After 28 years in Louisiana, Chuck and his wife, Barbara, moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, in 2005, in order to pursue their passion for art on a full-time basis. In 2008, Chuck started teaching a beginner’s oil painting class and later intermediate classes in composition, landscape painting, and limited palettes. He is represented by Charles Morin Fine Art in Fredericksburg, Texas. Degrees in chemistry from Southern Methodist University (B.S.) and the University of Texas (PhD) led to Chuck's career in research at ExxonMobil Process Research Labs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
