De Sede Furniture

Swiss

A de Sede piece lends a strong personality to the room it occupies. One of the world’s most respected furniture design houses, de Sede’s quality Swiss craftsmanship has its foundation in a long history of making expertly designed saddles. Founded in 1965 to build on a successful family-run saddler’s workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede now is a leading manufacturer of leather goods and furniture, including sofas, chairs and beds.

At the core of de Sede’s philosophy is a reverence for the complexity and beauty of handcrafted furniture in an age when mass-produced objects are the norm. Over the years, the atelier has built a name for itself in its modular furniture pieces, which are made using the highest quality leather upholstery. The sleek, elegant pieces incorporate functionality with beauty. Amongst their best-selling designs is the DS-600 introduced in 1972. Also known as the Non Stop sofa, it is a sensually curved, snaking modular sofa whose individual pieces can be zipped together to create multiple variations and arcs.

De Sede has collaborated with some of the world's finest design minds, enhancing the prestige and individuality of their products. Designers like Santiago Calatrava, Antonella Scarpitta, Stephan Hürlemann, Gordon Guillaumier and Philippe Malouin have all created pieces with the atelier. Ubald Klug’s 1974 DS-1025, also known as the Terrazza sofa, is an enduring favorite with its cascading levels of leather. In 2017, de Sede expanded its product line to include high-quality leather handbags, which are as thoughtfully designed and beautifully crafted as its furniture. De Sede AG is now part of the Volare Group AG and continues to handcraft its fine furniture and other goods from its factory in Klingnau.

By De Sede
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
Similar to the DS-80/91, the DS-80/03 is the ultimate synergy of high end leather and quality craftsmanship. First introduced over 50 years ago, the DS-80/03 is still a must have for any interior designer with a preference for leather. Born out of a small workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede has maintained a passion for over 55 years to transform the finest leather into seating furniture. Striking by design, a piece from de Sede is the epitome of functionalism and fashion. Iconic models such as the DS-600, with its snake shaped concept, and the DS-140, which introduced a rotation system that can turn a beautiful sofa into an elegant double lounge chair in two steps are celebrated as revolutionizing the furniture industry forever. De Sede HE-116 Table in Beola Marble by Hans Eichenberger
By Hans Eichenberger, De Sede
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Furniture like the HE-116 has its origin in the Bauhaus workshops in Weimar, which were founded by Walter Gropius in 1919. The highest premise of Bauhaus design is the combination of art and craft. To this day, the Bauhaus is considered the home of the avant-garde of classical modernism. The Swiss interior architect and designer Hans Eichenberger followed this straightforward, modern style throughout his artistic life. Eichenberger was one of the co-founders of Swiss design. The HE-116 tables also stem from this legacy. Straight-line legs made of tubular steel support a simple wooden top, the symbiosis of art and craftsmanship succeeds here par excellence. More in demand than ever, tubular steel furniture can now be artistically integrated into any atmosphere. It is the clear, simple but at the same time highly appealing design language which rightly gives the HE-116 a modern objectivity. Additional information: Material: Marble Category: Beola Thickness: Thickness 20 mm Characteristics: Precious, sophisticated materials such as marble, granite and quartz can be processed in all thicknesses and in various surface finishes, individually adapted to any object size. De Sede DS-149 Armchair in Select Cigarro
By De Sede
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Because her grandparents were tailors, designer Miriam Amelung knows the characteristics of fabric and leather down to the tiniest de- tails. In her new, elegant armchair DS-149, natural folds, organic ergonomics or the intense feeling of lightness are thus essential components – as is her dedication to the material: when Miriam and Sebastian Amelung created this new de Sede sculpture, they thought about how the natural folds of a hide might look like on a comfortable armchair. The result is an object that is free from orna- mental add-ons or special effects and is simply an armchair whose form, folds, curves and upholstery create a feeling of taking a heavenly rest break on a little cloud...

What a sofa was called in 1900 varied.
