Grayson Perry Figurative Prints

British, b. 1960
Winner of the 2003 Turner Prize, Grayson Perry creates ceramics and other objects that explore diverse historical and contemporary themes. Drawn in by the beauty of his pieces, which are covered with sgraffito drawing, handwritten text and transferred photographs, viewers are met with darker subjects and narrative hints to environmental disaster and child abuse. Autobiographical references to the artist's childhood, family, and his transvestite alter ego Claire are intertwined with his political references, creating a challenging conflict between his dark themes and the rich beauty of his works.

Midnight Madness - Witches on Night Flight
Located in Miami, FL
Pioneering female illustrator Gwenda Morgan creates an exuberantly complex image of a squad of broom-riding - pointed-hatted witches with black cats in tow. They fly through an inky black moonlit sky and are witnessed by only a rooftop owl. With the simple means of black and white, Morgan has rendered a highly charged composition that pluses with electricity. The whole image is on the cusp of being abstract while being representational. It is brilliantly designed with great attention to detail and is evocative of a sorcerer's malignant powers. Unframed. not signed Printed from the original block as part of the suite of 8 prints that accompanied the limited edition book Diary of a Land Girl, Whittington Press, 2000. The suite of prints was included with the first 50 copies of the book, and a further 8 suites were printed, from which this print comes. Gwenda Morgan (1 February 1908 – 1991) was a British wood engraver. She lived in the town of Petworth in West Sussex. Early life Morgan was born in Petworth, her father having moved there to work at the ironmongers, Austen & Co, of which he later became proprietor. He was the son of a Welsh-born military farrier. Education Following school in Petworth and at Brighton and Hove High School, Morgan, studied at Goldsmiths' College of Art in London from 1926. From 1930 she attended the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in Pimlico where she was taught and strongly influenced by the principal, Iain Macnab. The Grosvenor School was a progressive art school and the championing of wood engraving and linocuts fitted with its democratic approach to the arts. Works Morgan was commissioned to illustrate a number of books published by private presses. For the Samson Press she produced the frontispiece for Duke Hamilton...

Pollonaise No. 24, 1988 by Karl Gerich of Bath - Playing Card Print Sheet
Located in Meinisberg, CH
Karl Alexander Gerich (English, 23.4.1956 - 4.1.2016) Pollonaise No. 24, 1988 - Etching - Sheet ca. 27.8 X 42 cm - No plate mark - Varnished ('Glossy Antique French') Finished, coloured, backed and varnished print likely to be a spare sheet (over production), which were never used. Possibly at some later stage, Karl experimented by partially painting the back with divering number of layers of pink. Held up as finished cards the pink would then shine through the varnished card. By holding up the sheet, this effect can be observed in areas with and without the pink backing. Sheets is in good condition and suitable to be framed. Karl was a brilliant playing card maker and certainly one of the most genius artist-craftsmen I had the pleasure to learn about his work and know. He could do it all: Come up with the tale, weave meaning(s) into it, fill it with spirited characters of his liking, draw it, etch it, print it, colour it and handcraft the inks, paper and card into wondersome packs of playing cards, each of them living in their own, most exquisitely crafted boxes. Every pack a magical marvel, filled with the spirit of this genius card maker … All this he did using his Adana printing press, very simple hand tools and great skill. When Karl closed down his studio in St.Peter’s Terrace in Bath, England and moved to Poplar Close, he sold off work for which he felt he no longer wanted to be the custodian. So a number of prints reached the market then. Printed sheets by Karl Gerich...

"Fieldwork" Large 5+-Foot Original Woodcut on Paper by Roger Herman, Framed
By Roger Herman
Located in Encino, CA
"Fieldwork," an original woodcut on paper by Roger Herman, is a piece for the true collector. This spectacular woodcut cannot be properly communicated digitally – it is a far more impactful and meaningful experience in person. This work of art would definitely enhance most homes or professional settings, perfect for those who have an affinity for abstracts, Neo-Expressionism, modernist paintings, or postmodern art. This woodcut was printed by Hans-Fuss and published by the Graphic Arts Council at LACMA. Work is outfitted with custom, conservation frame. Art historian Howard Singerman's words from the December 1982 ArtForum Magazine: "...Herman's expressionistic style... with its roots in German Expressionism and the New York School, is previously painted. His mean colors, thick pigment, and quick strokes are not a direct record of emotion and activity, they are not painting outside language, but signs for that painting, for an emotion and an activity that are no longer available. The expressionist act is recast as romantic aspiration; in his inscription, Herman evokes painting's past and admits his need for its aura... ...Herman's distance even undermines the emblematic immediacy of his expressionism, which he uses to attain more distance still. Unlike the flattened, aggressive figures that push to, and threaten to push through, the surfaces of most new painting, Herman's figures are situated in middle ground and buried beneath the paint..." Artist Info/Bio: ARTIST BIOGRAPHY DOCUMENT IS INCLUDED Documentation: CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY IS INCLUDED About the Artist: Roger Herman, a German painter and ceramic artist, has become well known for the broad range of styles encompassed within his work across multiple mediums. Roger Herman was born in Germany in 1947, where he began his studies at the Kunstakademie in Karlsruhe. In 1976, he was offered a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which took him across the world to San Francisco. It was here, in California, that his career began to flourish. He started by creating paintings of phenomenal proportion, soon christened as the West Coast parallel of the 80s Neo-expressionist movement. It was highly referential work, drawing on his knowledge of art history, as well as his famed sense of humor. With loose, facile brushwork, his art is reminiscent of the figurative German painters who emerged in the 1970s—like Markus Lüpertz (who taught at the Kunstakademie), Rainer Fetting...
