Located in Topeka, KS
Awesome vintage Mid-Century Modern walnut & cane flip top storage twin headboards, a pair. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. And a few minor scratches and nicks on the sides & face. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. Serious question… What are TWINS’ favorite fruit??? PEARS!!! Get it!! LOL… Ok, well, This is a fabulous “pair” of “twin” sized headboards comprised of walnut frames, rectangular natural cane insets, and they have a flip top feature which reveals a totally open interior storage space!!! I mean… That’s a MASSIVE amount of storage!!! Not to mention… a GREAT hiding place!! HaHa!! Just kidding… don’t do that!! The interior of the storage space has been painted black and they are lined with natural cedar… no moths allowed!! We believe this duo was custom made and they are ready to grace your home with their Mid-Century Modern MAGNIFICENCE!!! They would be wonderful together in a bedroom separated with a nightstand between or separate them and use one in one bedroom and one in another, or…set them beside each other, turn the twin mattress sideways OR place one on each end of a twin mattress and you have a unique daybed or chaise! OR, set them side by side and use them as a headboard for your king size bed using...

Early-Mid-20th Century Art Moderne Maple Twin Bed Headboard & Footboard
By Conant Ball, Bissman Furniture Company, Russel Wright
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome Early-Mid-20th Century Art Moderne solid maple twin bed headboard & footboard in the style of Bissman and after Russel Wright for Conant Ball. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials however, it is not signed or marked in any way. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, metal siderails will be provided. No outstanding flaws we have detected just a beautiful original finish with all its wonderful age patina. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Early to Mid-20th Century. NOTE: If you love this Art Moderne maple twin headboard & footboard we have the matching chest and nightstand listed here for sale individually and a separate listing for the set if they are still available. “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise!” Good advice, Ben Franklin!!! Maybe we can help with that!! This is a spectacular solid maple twin sized headboard and footboard bearing a beautiful rectangular shape with lovely, hand-carved, or hand-sculpted rounded edges. We will include metal siderails upon purchase. This is a classic beauty with an Art Moderne style that you are sure to love for years to come. It is designed in a style after Russel Wright for Conant Ball or Bissman. My mother (who is a retired interior designer and has been identifying vintage pieces since before I was born… and I am vintage myself!!) believes the actual style is a copy after Russel Wright but the construction leads her to believe it’s Bissman. It is not marked, but no matter, it is INCREDIBLE!! The design world calls these transition pieces… of the era when pieces transitioned between the Art Deco period and the Mid-Century Modern period, during the early portion of the 20th century. Ahhhhh, the good ‘ol days!! LOVE IT!!! The maple bears a beautiful natural shade and it features clean lines, a timeless presence, and simple design sure to blend in beautifully with any décor. We think it would be fabulous utilized in a children’s bedroom but it would also be wonderful in a college dorm, guest room, or an industrial loft apartment! Spectacular in its simplicity, this is exactly the twin bed set...

Questions About Hitchcock Beds and Bed Frames
  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 22, 2021
Hitchcock chairs are 19th century-style chairs that were popular in the middle class as an emblem of social mobility. The chairs were affordable due to their easily mass-produced stenciling technique that replaced earlier painting designs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 1, 2024
Yes, some Hitchcock chairs are valuable. However, even early pieces made when the company first launched in the 19th century were mass produced, so chairs manufactured by the brand may not sell at price points as high as other antique furnishings. How much a particular Hitchcock chair is worth depends on its style, age, condition and rarity. A certified appraiser or knowledgeable antiques dealer can help you determine the estimated value of your chair. On 1stDibs, shop a collection of Hitchcock chairs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
No, the Hitchcock Chair Company closed its doors in 2006. Hitchcock chairs were initially created by Lambert Hitchcock who decided he could mass produce chairs for people. By the 1820s the Hitchcock chair company was making 300 chairs a week, a remarkable number at a time when many pieces of furniture were being handmade one piece at a time. Shop a collection of properly vetted Hitchcock Chairs from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
