Jill Hackney Figurative Paintings
Jill Hackney is an American impressionist painter, born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She studied painting at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Louisiana State University, where she earned her BFA degree. She is a Founding Member and twice President of Studio 801, an artists’ cooperative in Baton Rouge. Hackney was recently selected as a fellow of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, for her work as President of the NUNU Arts and Culture Collective. Best known for her still life and landscape paintings, her focus is to show light’s impact on her subjects, through layers of vertical and linear strokes. Using the natural texture of the wood, on which she paints, each painting is approached with a sense of nostalgia. The end effect is a union of the senses, which awakens feelings of joy, serenity and peace. Hackney currently works as the Director of International Communications for NUNU Arts and Culture Collective.
