John Berney Ladbrooke Art
English, 1803-1879
John Berney Ladbrooke was one of four artist sons of the English landscape painter and co-founder of the Norwich School, Robert Ladbrooke (1768-1842). John Berney Ladbrooke was taught by his father before becoming a pupil of the influential John Crome (1768-1821), who with Wilson, Gainsborough, Turner, Constable, and Alexander Nasmyth was one of the fathers of the British School of landscape painting.
Like Crome, John Berney Ladbrooke’s landscapes are characterised by his detailed depiction of native trees and foliage, and by the frequent inclusion of woodland pathways which frequently lead the viewer into the scene and away towards the horizon.
He exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1821 and 1822, and frequently at the British Institution and the Suffolk Street Gallery up to 1873.to

Fine 19th century oil painting of a bustling Austrian/Germanic village with horse, rider and various figures outside an Inn, attributed to Arthur Georg Ramberg (1819-1879), well known for figurative genre paintings. The rider is carrying a bugle, apparently announcing news to the people; men are sitting by the table drinking, one with a raised stein.
