Judith Brown (December 17, 1931 – May 11, 1992) was a dancer and a sculptor who was drawn to images of the body in motion and its effect on the cloth surrounding it. She welded crushed automobile scrap metal into energetic moving torsos, horses, and flying draperies. Brown attended Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York (B.A., 1954), where she learned to weld from her teacher, Theodore Roszak, a pioneering abstract expressionist sculptor. This is done in a style similar to Leonard Baskin. "American Bald Eagle Flying Through Silver Clouds Between Heaven and Earth" is an original mixed media piece by David Barnett, signed on the lower left center. It incorporates watercolor, ink, iridescent acrylic, rubber stamps, collage, and oil pencil. This piece depicts a surrealist landscape. A cow with an cowl perched on its back stands in the lower left corner, and tracks lead away from it across the bottom of the picture. A small turtle approaches a pond in the lower right. In the center register of the image, two leaves have been collaged into an abstractly-drawn forest. The eagle of the title is shown in several stages of its flight through the blue and yellow sky. David’s career as an art dealer began at age nineteen when, as a fine arts student, he sponsored an exhibition of work by fellow student artists. In 1966, he opened his first gallery in a converted basement apartment at Wisconsin Avenue and 21st Street. In 1985 David moved his gallery from Wisconsin Avenue into the Old Button Mansion on State Street and has been active ever since. Jennifer Lowe has combined the landscapes, animals and the people of her native Montana with a unique approach to painting. Born in Missoula, Jennifer spent parts of her childhood working in the fields of her grandparent's homesteaded property in Montana's Grasshopper Valley. Lowe's paintings are rendered in the vivid color and rich texture of cattlemarkers and capture the whimsical images from her imagination and the memories of her Montana upbringing. Lowe constructs her own frames and decorates them with a folk art quality - each of which carries an element of the painting that it is made for giving her finished work a unique character. Jennifer began using cattlemarker (an oil-based paintstick) in 1985 while a student at Montana State University. Since graduating in 1987, Lowe has been featured in 22 shows throughout the west.
