Celia Birtwell, CBE, who was a close friend of David Hockney, is a British textile designer and fashion designer, known for her distinctive bold, romantic and feminine designs, which are influenced by Picasso and Matisse, and the classical world. She was well known for her prints which epitomised the 1960's-1970's. Gaulke now resides in Atherton, California with her husband Michael. Together they created the Michael and Judith Gaulke Chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University, an endowment for the College of Engineering.
