Lourdes Rivera Mixed Media

Lourdes Rivera was born in New York City in 1989, where she currently lives and works. She is a first generation Dominican-American. Lourdes considers herself bi-cultural, but uncommonly, not because she has adopted one culture from her parents and was born into the other. She was shuffled, mixed, stirred and shaken into being both by living in both places interchangeably for a large part of her life, a common theme of her work. Lourdes’ series Relative Perspective, which dealt with issues of identity was mentioned in the Long Island City Times Ledger in April, 2014, and she is currently expanding on a new series, Retrospect. This work takes a look back at the decisions and choices made throughout 2014. Her work often is a harmonization, and brings together unique parts, representing ideals, convictions and beliefs.
