Pennacchio Argentato Sculptures
Pennacchio Argentato is an artistic duo composed by Pasquale Pennacchio (Caserta, 1979) and Marisa Argentato (Naples, 1977). They've worked together since having met at Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and later, they studied together sculpture at Städelschule Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, where they got the chance to study with eminent artists, curators, and philosophers.
Their works play with the idea of representation, property, and observation of our time and its social, economic, humanitarian, political and technological issues. Their artistic practice involves formal and visual strategies of abstraction, repetition, appropriation, enlargement, and fragmentation. The artists use a wide range of materials and techniques from performance materials such as titanium and carbon kevlar to more typical contemporary sculptural ones such as concrete and acrylic resins. Additionally, the artists assimilate video projections into their sculptures and experiment with 3D modeling techniques. They work a lot with series that usually tend to infinite and that never can be completed.
They participate in many solo and collective shows, especially around Europe. The most notable one were at: Oval Lingotto, Turin, 2017; Museo d'arte contemporanea Villa Croce, Genoa, 2016; Banca Fideuram, Naples, 2016; Palazzo Reale, Milan, 2016; MUSAC - Museo di Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, León, Spain, 2011; Midway Contemporary Art, Minneapolis, 2010; MUHKA - Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, Belgium, 2014; Ausstellungraum Klingental, Basel, 2014 Autocenter, Berlin¸ Flip project space, Toronto, 2011; Landings Project Space, Vestfossen, Norway 2010; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, 2013; Frankfurt Kunstverein, Frankfurt am Main, 2011; Le Magasin - Centre National d'Art Contemporain de Grenoble, Grenoble, 2010; Pan - Naples and Palazzo Italia, Belgrade 2008; Progetto Radar, Venice, 2006;Villa delle Rose, Spazio Aperto, GAM di Bologna, Bologna; 2003; Ratti Foundation, Como, 2002; Viafarini, Milan, 2002.
