Sarah Foat Figurative Paintings
Sarah Foat, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Sarah Foat graduated in 1998 from Bath Spa University College with a degree in Fine Art. I then ran my own art gallery for 10 years exhibiting and selling contemporary art and craft alongside my own work. Since returning to my artwork after becoming a mother, I am now pursuing my passion for abstract painting. My recent paintings are inspired by a piece of graffiti that I regularly walk past on the school-run - in particular the layers of previous graffiti tags, vivid colours and beautiful close up compositions. I use acrylics to explore textures and colours reminiscent of graffiti, with a continual process of applying and removing paint in order to reveal glimpses of previous layers. I enjoy experimenting with mark-making and investigating contrasts, not only with colour but also texture, tone, line and space.

The artist's works take the human body to address universal problems linked to identity, vulnerability, and transformation.
The artworks are inspired by photographs from newspapers and magazines and are made with household materials such as aluminum foil, sulfite, cotton, and cold porcelain in order to create access to collective memory.
The artist makes a personal reading of today's society through the chosen images, she observes humanity, its behaviors, and problems. The bodies exhibited in her work relate that the human condition that manifests itself, that claims for others, then they join each other and become one. Both in paintings and sculptures, these bodies go through a process of transmutation. They are covered, diluted, faded, covered, and wrapped over the bodily appearance. Finally, from this transformation, the artist creates her own mythology.
