This compelling abstract painting was realized by the esteemed Spanish Painter, Senen Ubina, circa 1975. It features a square brass plate with demilune forms cut out of the center. The plate has been painted in a rich aubergine hue exhibiting a rich impasto. A wire traverses the negative space in the center, continuing outwards on either side in a painted line. Streamlined forms in dove grey protrude from each side, while arch-like forms in slate gray frame the central plate on top and bottom. This compelling work, "Composition 10-1969" by the renowned Spanish artist Senen Ubina (b. 1923) reflects the influence of constructivism, abstract expressionism and minimalism. The composition features features three rectangular forms in a copper hue, reminiscent of Donald Judd "Stacks" in the center, with two black bands of slightly variant widths traversing the center of the canvas. A vertical line, a la Barnett Newman, extends from the top to the bottom of the composition continuing into a cut-out space between the top two rectangular blocks. The off-white background has been executed in expressionistic strokes of viscous pigment, imbuing it with a subtle painterly aesthetic. With its austere aesthetic- composed of geometric forms- and quiet palate, this would be an excellent acquisition for a collector of first rate Mid Century fine art...
