Suki Maguire Nude Paintings

Suki Maguire (Kim Jong Sook) was born in Seoul, Korea in 1949. She grew up in Seoul, and always displayed a propensity for the arts. As a largely self-taught artist, Maguire's style reflects the strength and a passion that grew out of these struggles, as the Korean War broke out in 1950. However, after finishing school, the demands of work and family all precluded her from becoming seriously involved in her beloved art.
Over a quarter of a century of teaching at the Seoul British School has allowed Maguire some outlet for her creative impulses through instructing the children or setting up seasonal displays at the school. When Maguire felt it was time to get serious about doing her work, she enrolled at Hongik University's Adult Education Art Program. There she had the precious opportunity of studying under some of Korea's most illustrious artists.
Maguire has always retained her own unique personal approach to painting. An illustration of this is in her methodology for painting nudes, her first major area of focus in her rediscovered art career. Maguire would go into a Korean public bathhouse for women, without brush or camera, where she would employ her hands and arms to sketch invisibly, her chosen subject in her artistic mind's eye.

Patricia Gren-Hayes (American, b. 1932), is a Bay Area Figurative / Bay Area Feminist Art Movement artist who studied at Winnipeg Public Art School in 1950. She received early recognition in Museum and Gallery competitions and exhibitions and was awarded a Special Education in Art recognition by the Winnipeg Museum of Fine Art, and was awarded a scholarship to the Banff College of Fine Art. Further studies were at The University of Manitoba.
She was a Member of Winnipeg Free Press Sketch Club and was a Cartoonist and paste-up for a French-English bi-weekly, in Eastern Canada. Tom Hamil, was born in New York in 1928 and raised primarily in California. After attending the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, he returned to California to begin his formal art training at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco (now known as the San Francisco Art Institute). He completed his education at the University of Washington with a Master’s Degrees and Doctorate in Fine Arts and Education. His first solo exhibition was held in 1956. Since then, he has participated in numerous one man shows, group shows, and has been represented in galleries in the US and Mexico.
In addition to his painting, Hamil has authored and illustrated a number of books. While at the Naval Academy, he received recognition for his paintings, drawings, and illustrations. Listed among Hamil’s many awards and honors are a Ford Foundation Fellowship and an Award of Excellence from the American Graphics Society.
