This incredible set was purchased new in Glasgow, Scotland in 1970. We acquired from the original owners who kept them in pristine condition. Designed by K.M. Wilkins for G-Plan of England, this line is appropriately named the "Tulip Group". Wilkins also designed the the well known Housemaster Chair, often misattributed to Ib Kofod Larsen. The "Tulip" design is demonstrated by the rosewood panels which are molded into curves that mimic a blossoming flower. Offered almost exclusively in teak, this rosewood set is truly a rare find. The rich, amber-red panels are perfectly complimented by the chrome hardware and velvet fabric. The luxuriously soft velvet is in amazing condition. The color is difficult to describe, but in our opinion, it's a cross between olive-green and taupe-brown. Of course the refraction of light on velvet can magnify or minimize the tones and highlights depending on the angle and environment.

Absolutely masterful watercolor street scene painting by James C. Borden (1928-2013). Prepare to be awestruck when you lay eyes on this exquisitely detailed watercolor painting by James Borden. The modern painting depicts an ethereal urban scene crowned with summer light. The scale itself is impressive at over four feet wide and three feet high (50.75? x 36.675?). There is just so much to see, so much texture, so many layers. Borden has truly mastered his medium. This is a watercolor cityscape on paper, housed in a cerused wood frame and protected by a pane of acrylic. The painting’s vibrant colors have beautifully preserved. The mastery of this painting is unreal. Borden’s orchestration of color leads the eye through the painting with late afternoon sunlight carving a path through an otherwise gray urban interior. His use of color is narrative. The viewer is being teased away from gloomy city life with a glimmer of sun and nature on the horizon. Exceptional Nineteen-Laties (late 20th Century) Chinoiserie console table by Drexel. Winged tips flanking the ends and the brass medallion drawer pull are classic Chinese elements along with the uniform silhouette. In the West we call it a Parsons leg, truth be told, the Chinese did it first. Here we can see how Drexel understands the parallel between Asian and Modern aesthetics. The black lacquer surface is enlivened with painted scenes featuring figures interacting amongst a backdrop of nature and architecture. This piece is finished in the round. The back side has painted panels throughout. An ever-useful, inconspicuous, drawer can be found at center. This table comes with a sheet of glass to protect the decorative top. Gorgeous, large Danish teak end tables produced by Svend Madsen for Karl Lindegarrd. These Mid-Century Modern lamp tables are finished on all sides, and feature elegant styling and expert Scandinavian craftsmanship. A single drawer on each table provides ample storage without compromising the overall modern aesthetic. The solid teak wood legs are a bit thicker than typically seen on Danish furniture. Theses gently contoured legs mimic the humanist feel of the rounded edges on the table tops. Subtly bowed, solid teak edge banding punctuates the far ends of the table tops. These tables are stamped with the Svend Madsen label and marked made in Denmark. Both of the table tops have been refinished. The more than half-a-century old teak wood maintains a warm orange tone that only comes with age.
As is the case for many Scandinavian designers from the mid-century period, little biographical information on Danish designer Svend Åge Madsen has survived. What is known has been gleaned from vintage dealers working with limited archival materials, like sales catalogues. Outside of Nordic countries, the designer’s name is often written "Svend Aage Madsen”. While some rare designs date from the late 1950s, the overwhelming majority of Madsen’s furniture was designed in the 1960s.
