From the early age he inclined to being an artist and became skillful in drawing. His decorative porcelain flower brooches were spotted by Elsa Schiaparelli. She hired Schlumberger to design costume jewelry and buttons for her haute couture line. The closing designer let his talent to flourish. As Schiaparelli recalled, Schlumberger’s buttons were shaped as whimsical creatures and looked like anything but buttons. Six years after opening his jewelry salon in 1950, Schlumberger joined Tiffany & Co. as a signature designer. And once again, his creativity and talent thrived there just as well. In his first year he created three settings for the famous Tiffany Yellow Diamonds...

1940s Mauboussin Gold Diamond Leaf Pin Brooch
By Mauboussin
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
A beautiful retro pin brooch by Mauboussin. Made of 18k yellow gold, featuring a brilliant cut diamond. Stamped with the maker's mark, a hallmark for 18k gold (two French Eagle head marks), a serial number and a written country of origin (France). Measurements: 2" L x 7/8" W. The weight is 15.7 grams. About Mauboussin brand The history of Mauboussin rooted in 1827, despite all the historical events that were shaking France those years. The House was called Maison Noury, with Jean-Baptiste Noury being a head of the company. In 1880 Noury’s nephew, Georges Mauboussin, started to work for the firm as an apprentice. Nine year later he took over the control of the company. From the start Mauboussin’s success was challenged by his competitors, established companies Mellerio and Wièze and upcoming Cartier and Boucheron. During the Roaring Twenties Mauboussin was using jade, shellac and colored stones carved in India. Those unconventional materials brought him a great success embodied in multiple major international awards. Celebrities were often wearing the Maison’s jewelry for their high-end magazine photoshoots. That brought fame to Mauboussin jewelry in the artistic and glamorous world. In 1936 Mauboussin and the New York jeweler Trabert & Hoeffer became partners. They opened their stores across the United States. Among Trabert & Hoeffer-Mauboussin’s clients were Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich and Paulette Godard. In the 1950s one of the most influential designers René Lacaze often set the jewelry trends. Since a lot of his designs were made for Mauboussin, the pieces of the latter became widely popular. It were a celebration of the colored stones, turquoise, coral and bright enamel. A few decades later this openness to new approaches and materials resulted in the Nadia ring. The name came from “nacre” (pearl in French) and “diamant”. Being authentic and universally understood, the ring quickly gained its popularity. In 1994, Mauboussin started making watches under the moto “Combining Swiss technical expertise with French creativity.” Mauboussin watch...

Tiffany & Co. by Peretti Round Vintage Earrings 18k Gold Estate Jewelry
By Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co.
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
A pair of iconic Tiffany & Co. by Elsa Peretti Round earrings made of 18 karat gold. As a larger (30 mm vs 24 mm) version of the contemporary Round earrings, this vintage pair is more substantial. Tiffany & Co. do not make this size anymore. Elsa Peretti’s minimalist style was perfectly embodied in these 18k gold earrings. They are designed as disks with a concave surface that is smooth and silky. It looks like the earrings were shaped by water or wind, just like most of the Peretti biomorphic pieces. These vintage earrings are made of 18 karat yellow gold in Spain. The earrings measure 1 ¼” (30 mm) in diameter and weight 13.6 grams. The vintage Elsa Peretti Round earrings are stamped with Tiffany & Co. and Elsa Peretti maker's marks, a hallmark for 18k gold, country of manufacture. The smaller 24-mm version of the Round earrings retails for $2,825 + tax. About Elsa Peretti Brand: Elsa Peretti started her glorious path in 1969, after creating a successful design for a perfume bottle. Five years later she signed a contract with Tiffany & Co. as a jewelry designer. Their collaboration, that is still widely popular, was taking place until 2010s. Elsa Peretti style called biomorphic as they were inspired by such natural shapes as pebbles and bones. She was captivated by simplicity, and one famously descried her process as “Take away, take away.” The Mesh collection is one of Peretti’s most popular creations. It has its place among The Bone Cuff. The Mesh collection by Peretti was introduced to the public in 1975 as the gold scarves collection. Later on, in 2000s Tiffany & Co. launched a limited-edition Mesh capsule collection. The fabric like looking gold collars are wearable in many ways and are as timeless as they are versatile. About Estate Jewelry: Buying jewelry online might be challenging. The quality of the making has not gotten better over the time while the design is getting more and more generic. Add ever rising prices and you could end up with not finding anything suitable. To purchase a high-quality jewelry piece for an obtainable price consider buying estate items. • Quality vs Quantity Estate pieces mostly belong to the times when jewels were handmade and not mass produced. There were simply less jewelry makers at that time and they cared about their reputation. Opposed to the current fast fashion approach, life pace was in general slower. That allowed makers to take more time to craft truly quality pieces. • Fair-Priced vs Overpriced Designer pieces aka signed pieces can cost multiple times more than their unsigned equivalents. We pay not only for an item itself but also for the brand advertising campaigns and all the buzz the name is creating. Prices for estate jewelry form differently and mostly depend on the cost paid by a seller. A pre-owned Bulgari ring and a brand-new Bulgari ring have a very appealing price difference. Ask your local jewelry store about a retail price of the desired piece and you’d be pleasantly surprised. • True value vs Seasonal rush Pre-owned jewelry retains its value. Over the time it gets rare and more expensive. Think purchasing a new car that loses its value right after you left your dealer versus buying a vintage vehicle. At Nadine Krakov...

Some brooches could be worn as pendants, so you get two pieces in one. A brooch is an amazing jewel that is fun, elegant and expressive at the same time. About Vintage Jewelry: Vintage jewelry is something we can talk about for days. Since the subject is that big and has multiple aspects to discuss, we’d like to focus on the most important parts of it. So, what is vintage jewelry? Why it’s so appealing? And how to buy...

About Platinum Jewelry: Purity and durability – these two characteristics define platinum from the rest of the precious metals. From the chemical perspective, platinum is one of the most stable elements. The white color of platinum comes from its purity. While white gold contains an alloy of zinc, copper and nickel, platinum has a pure 95-98% composition. In fact, white gold is yellow gold mixed with other metals and then rhodium plated. Platinum is durable and denser than gold. Platinum jewelry lasts for ages and can be passed down from generation to generation. Platinum’s purity and strength make it relevant to the idea of eternal love. It’s an embodiment of strong feelings and rarity. That’s why platinum engagement rings and platinum wedding bands have been popular ever since. Platinum is also a symbol of status and reputation. It looks subtle and not as obvious as yellow gold. Gemstones set in platinum are not distracting because of the metal’s neutral appearance. The color, brilliance and vibrance of diamonds and colored stones are amplified next to platinum “true white”. About Vintage Jewelry: Vintage jewelry is something we can talk about for days. Since the subject is that big and has multiple aspects to discuss, we’d like to focus on the most important parts of it. So, what is vintage...

Cartier by Cipullo Love Bracelet
By Aldo Cipullo for Cartier
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Being a symbol of commitment, a Love bracelet was designed as a minimalistic piece in 1969 and was bound to become iconic. The Cartier Love bracelet is supposed to be put on by someone who mutually loves you. Two screws on both sides hold the bracelet together to represent locked in feelings.  The gold Love bracelet looks very neat. It has a perfect width, it's shiny yet classic and elegant. It's a perfect Cartier bracelet that suits anyone's taste.  This particular Love bracelet is signed by Love bracelet designer Aldo Cipullo. It's from 1970s and that's why it has both signatures, the Cartier and Cipullo. This Love bracelet is size 17 (will fit up to 7" wrist). Comes with a screwdriver. About Aldo Cipullo Aldo Cipullo is mostly known as a creator of the famous Cartier Love bracelet. However, he designed several iconic pieces, and his talent was appreciated by David Webb and Tiffany & Co. His father was a costume jewelry maker, and Aldo worked as an apprentice at one of his workshops. But Cipullo’s ambition went further than Italy where he was born. After he turned 23, he moved to New York to study at The School of Visual Arts. In 1969 Aldo Cipullo started to work for Cartier, and his glorious journey began. Very soon after Cipullo came up with the idea of Cartier Love bracelet. The new design made a big splash in the jewelry world. It was a completely new perspective of the classic look. There is a story behind creating Love bracelet. It says Cipullo was heartbroken at that time after a failed love affair. He wanted to lock in his memories as it was all he had left. Being fascinated by industrial features of New York City and all things hardware, he drew his first draft of the bracelet. Another emblematic piece by Cipullo called Juste en Clou (Just a Nail) came up in 1971. The minimalist, wrapped around nail-looking gold bracelet was a great success. Today the yellow gold, rose gold and white gold Cartier Nail...

Bulgari Ancient Roman Coin Yellow Gold Cufflinks Original Box
By Bvlgari
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
A pair of vintage cufflinks by Bulgari, made of 18k yellow gold featuring ancient Roman coin. The coins are silver, double bezel set. They are from 2nd century B.C., which make them 2,300 year old. Measurements: diameter is 5/8", total weight 18.3 grams. About cufflinks Cufflinks were introduced in 17th century in England. Prior to that, shirt cuffs were held together by ties, ribbons and strings. Fashion changed, and stitched buttonholes were developed. To fasten the cuffs, tailors used ornamental buttons with an attached chain. These buttons became popular with the upper classes. Jewelers started to make gold and silver buttons with gemstones and other adornments. This is how cufflinks were invented. A mass production of cufflinks began in the 19th century. Following the Victorian era fashion standards, they design was opulent, with such embellishments as gemstones and extravagant details. Cufflinks popularity diminished a century after, due to a new design of the shirt cuffs. They came with attached buttons, and there was no need to use cufflinks. But later the French cuff made its way to the market, and cufflinks went back to fashion. Today, comparing to their predecessor they are rather practical and easy to wear. Gold cufflinks and gemstone cufflinks have been a symbol of wealth and reputation. It’s a popular gift for a groom or a graduated student. Women...
