Post-Modern Consumer's Rest Chair by Stiletto/Frank Schreiner, Nr. 91/200
By Frank Schreiner
Located in Munster, NRW
If there is any brilliant commentary on the commercialisation of design (and capitalism overall), it is surely the „consumer’s rest“ chair by ‚stiletto‘ studios. ‚stiletto‘, civil name Frank Schreiner (* 1959 in rüsselsheim), is a German postmodern postpunk author-designer of the so called ‚new German design‘. while studying visual communication in berlin he became part of the subcultural eccentric and anarchistic „neoism“ movement – and in 1983 developed his early „masterpiece“: the „consumer’s rest“ chair. It is visually related to the famous wire chairs by Eames and Bertoia (which allegedly reminded his mother of shopping trolleys). Schreiner created the chair from a real supermarket shopping trolley by minimal interventions of cutting and bending.
Schreiner became an allround artist and designer from experimental filmmaking to mail art...

Angelo Mangiarotti - Eros Marble Side Table by Skipper, Italy 1971 - Guéridon
By Angelo Mangiarotti, Skipper
Located in Munster, NRW
Rare Angelo Mangiarotti Eros marble table.
1971 manufactured by Skipper, Italy. 72.5cm high, 66cm x 44cm...
"happiness comes from correctness.“, by Angelo Mangiarotti, architect, designer and professor, born in Milan in 1921.
Perhaps because as a visiting professor in Chicago in the mid-1950s he met not only Frank Lloyd Wright, but also Walter Gropius and Mies Van der Rohe. But maybe it just describes his profound architectural understanding of construction and materiality that always influenced his design. And precision is an essential component of his series of “eros” tables developed for skipper in 1971.
They consist only of a marble slab and also made of marble column feet that “slot” into prefabricated openings through their conically shaped upper end.
The weight of the slab stabilizes the structure like the end stone of a vault.
Due to the pure marble...

Pkw-2 Pivoting K-Wire Wood Base Side Chair, Eames Herman Miller, Bikini, Seng
By Charles and Ray Eames, Herman Miller
Located in Munster, NRW
eames‘ chairs are so common and widespread today that you’ve actually seen them far too often. but there are some versions that are a bit more special – making them collector’s items. for example, these ray & charles eames side chairs ‚pkw-2‘, meaning a pivoting, k-wire chair on a wooden base. version 1 would be a fully covered seat, version 2 is the cut-out „bikini“ cover, where you can see the wire mesh construction. this is also known as a ‚bikini swivel wire chair‘.
here we have a black and a white one. we understood they were imported from the united states as a pair to Europe – but then sold on to different customers. years ago we bought the white one as the first piece in our eames-1st-generations-collection. by chance or serendipity, we were now able to find and buy the black one also and thus reunite the pair.
together they make impressive and scarce art objects to grace any collection of early midcentury design. interestingly the dowel-leg-version was discontinued after 1954: the open ball-bearing connection and the elegant thin wooden legs weren’t very practical. weight and power, when swivelling, sometimes resulted in cracks or breakage. (that’s why we wouldn’t recommend them to use as a kitchen chair, maybe.) they are functional, showing a wonderful patina and are great pieces to admire and to understand the thinking behind the design.
set of 2 side chair...

Important Mobile by Unknown French Artist, Acquired in 1978, Île De Ré, France
Located in Munster, NRW
Important Mobile by an unknown french artist, provenance: Island of Ré, Atlantic coast, France.
From private collection, this kinetic sculpture was acquired in 1978. Height approx. 4.5 meters, spatial spread approx. 6.5 meters, steel.
this impressive and contemplative work of art adorned a collector's private park on the beautiful Island of Ré in the Atlantic ocean for years. Made entirely of steel, the pendulums begin to swing in even the slightest summer breeze.
We've included a short video here, so it's best to get an impression of the sensation for yourself. The sheer height and spatial spread are fascinating, you can walk along under the mobile.
It is difficult to find words for this piece, in the end the overwhelming effect only becomes apparent when you really stand in front of it!
The reddened stand itself measures 230cm in height and spreads out on the floor to approx. 120cm - the middle balance bar, which sits completely rotatable, measures 360cm, the floats attached to each side have an extension of approx. 200cm to 180cm - they are perfectly balanced!
The mobile consists of 4 parts and can easily be set up by 2 people...

Vitra, Planophore, Bookshelf + Roomdivider Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, 2014
By Vitra, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby
Located in Munster, NRW
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have designed Planophore 2014 for Vitra as a dual-purpose - room divider and bookshelf.
Its open sides create a horizontal emphasis underscored by the solid shelves with rounded bottom edges, which are reminiscent of aircraft wings and appear to float on the vertical panels. This also explains the name of the shelf: the original Planophore made its debut in 1871 as the first stable model aeroplane...

Postmodern Three-Legged, Suction Cup Highchair with Casters
Located in Munster, NRW
Progress is change. And change means doing something differently than before: students revolt against their teachers, young progressives against old masters. In art and design, too, common insights are being questioned again and again. The subversive humor of Italian „Memphis Group“ was a rebellion against the monotony resulting from the overpowering rule of „form follows function“. The radical „New German Design“ of the 80s provoked with concrete, steel and recycled materials. and again and again designers experimented with „readymades“: chairs made from shopping carts, lamps from car headlights, tables from traffic signs.
And here, a chair made of suction cups. The „maker aesthetic“ openly shows every connection: the roughly welded steel rods, the steel cables as bracing, the industrial casters...
