  • Minnie Minoso - Baseball Great, Original Framed Watercolor on Archival Paper
    By Margie Lawrence
    Located in Chicago, IL
Minnie Miñoso was a Cuban professional baseball player. He began his baseball career in the Negro leagues in 1946 and became an All-Star third baseman with the New York Cubans. He was signed by the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball (MLB) after the 1948 season as baseball's color line fell. Miñoso went on to become an All-Star left fielder with the Indians and Chicago White Sox. The first Afro-Latino in the major leagues and the first black player in White Sox history, as a 1951 rookie he was one of the first Latin Americans to play in an MLB All-Star Game. Miñoso was one of the most popular and dynamic players in White Sox franchise history. He helped the "Go-Go" White Sox become one of the premier teams of the 1950s and 1960s. A rare power threat on a team known for speed and defense, Miñoso also held the White Sox record for career home runs from 1956 to 1974. This piece is floated on a cream colored mat and framed in a simple black frame measuring 25.5h x 18.5w x 1.5d inches. One hundred and eleven years after his birth, baseball great Buck O'Neil was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame in 2022. O’Neil’s biggest impact was not anything he did as a player, manager, coach or scout. Rather, what made O'Neil worthy of Cooperstown is the sheer amount he did for the game off the field in his later years. Artist Margie Lawrence shows him here with other baseball greats, Satchel Page and Jackie Robinson...

  • Art Deco Costume Design - Eva
    By Georges Lepape
    Located in Miami, FL
The paper in some of these photos looks overly textured due to the sharpness of the high-res digital camera. In person, with the human eye, the paper looks reasonably smooth with out blemishes. For this fashion illustration, Georges Lepape paints a stunning abstract pattern for the subject dress that is repeated in her hair. The work represents an early use of metallic paint, with silver metallic in the dress and bronze metallic in the blouse. Lepape's highly detailed drawing becomes more evident the closer you look. It's quite amazing how deftly he rendered facial feature on such a small scale. "Eva" 1918 Gouache, watercolor, and ink on paper Signed and dated, lower right: '1918' Inscribed, verso: "Costume for L'enfantement du mort, (miracle en pourpre, et or.).
