The drawing, made of white lead and pencil on paper, is a study of two trees with a knotty trunk, typical of the mediterranean vegetation.
The subject can be found quite commonly in Gaspard Dughet's landscape paintings. Gaspard Dughet is an half french half italian artist who was the brother in law of Nicholas Poussin but, differently from his relative and master, his works are characterized by a more asymmetrical point of view.
