About the Item

Floating Colors - Abstract Geometric Composition in Oil on Canvas Abstract composition with bright colors by San Francisco artist Richard Turtletaub (American, b. 1959). Various shapes of bright colors are floating in a field of beige shades and off white. The largest form is vibrant green and blue, with a triangle shaped hole. Three small dots repeat the colors of the medium and large forms. At the top and bottom edges, there are half-circles which almost blend into the background. Signed "Richard Turtletaub" in two places on verso. This painting can be seen in a photo of the artist in his studio. No frame, but the edges are painted for a frame-less display. Canvas size: 40"H x 30"W San Francisco-based artist Richard Turtletaub (American, b. 1959) was born in New York. He specializes in oil painting in multiple styles. Using imagery that can be considered mid-century meets the ethereal, his work displays a dreamlike narrative whether employing vintage advertising or abstract shapes. As a graphic designer, Richard has been awarded for his magazine layouts and has had work exhibited in various design publications. His illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post among many others. He has more recently created projected graphics for live theater, including for a production of “A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”, for which he won a Theater Bay Area award in 2019. Along those lines, he has begun to produce installation work that combines projected imagery with paintings and graphics. In 2020, one of his paintings was selected to appear in the deYoung Open exhibit.
