Clareen Adair Barrett was born in Vasa, Minnesota, to the late Clair and Elizabeth Willis on December 18, 1930. She has exhibited at Rochester Art Center, Rochester, in 1963 and Kroll Gallery, Prescott in 2008. She passed away on January 22, 2014, in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

Down in Mexico Way

This artwork titled "Down in Mexico Way" 1955 is a watercolor on paper by noted California artist Stanley M. Long 1892-1972 It is signed and dated at the lower left corner by the artist. The artwork size is 13.25 x 18.5 inches, framed is 23.5 x 28 inches. It is custom framed in a wooden silver frame, with silver color spacer. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright.
About the artist:
Stanley M. Long spent his childhood on a ranch in Napa where he broke wild horses. He began sketching when quite young and at 15 enrolled at the San Francisco Institute of Art. He continued at the California College of Arts and Crafts, where he was awarded a scholarship for further study at Académie Julian in Paris.
He served in the camouflage corps in both world wars. Long taught art in San Francisco at Mission High School and for 17 years at Polytechnic High School. His western illustrations were featured in Sunset Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. Having worked with horses all his life, they were to become the main theme of his paintings.
Long died in San Carlos, CA on March 29, 1972.
