This is an 18th century engraved portrait of "Edward Stanley" created by Francesco Bartolozzi (1728–1815), after a drawing by Hans Holbein the Younger (1497- 1543) in the 16th century. Born in Indiana and initially studying architecture, Reed’s understanding of structure deeply influenced his artistic style, which he described as architectonic. He later transitioned to fine arts, studying at the Cincinnati Art Academy, but his studies were interrupted by World War I.
