Blue Unique Vase, Turi Heisselberg Pedersen
By Turi Heisselberg Pedersen
Located in New York, NY
Balustrade Vase, 2016, (Ceramic, C. 13 in. h x 8.5 in. d, Object No.: 4145).
Turi Heisselberg Pedersen has, all through her career, strived to develop the vessel as abstract form and as an independent sculptural object.
As Turi notes “working in clay is to me connected with many underlying cultural bound references, but also strongly connected to nature. The very process of building in clay is a process from nature to culture. We have an inherent understanding of beauty and design evolved in thousands of years of visual impressions from our cultural history, but especially also from nature. In this context, I am aiming to create a visual and emotional reading of the objects, working with shape, rhythm, volume, movement, and texture”.
In the interplay between culture and nature, Turi’s works are inspired by geological structures and crystal formations, but also by architecture, the edged rendering of a computer drawing or folded paper shapes. Most of her faceted shapes seem to have a seed of coincidence or unplanned development, reminding one of crystal formations growing in irregular clusters.?
Heisselberg Pedersen’s sculptures are hand-modeled from stoneware and glazed with slip-glazes, which gives the works a stone-like, dry surface with a rich texture. Some of Turi’s designs have expressive surfaces, with relief or fluted structures but most of them are simply just trying to express the inherent character and freshness of the clay.
Turi Heisselberg Pedersen was born in Denmark in 1965. She was educated at the prestigious Design School Kolding, Denmark and lives and works in Copenhagen. She has been lecturing at Kolding School of Design from 1994 – 2007 and is the Co-founder of the “Exhibition Room for New Ceramics...

Glazed Ceramic Sculptural Vase by Freyja Dorren Unique Contemporary UK
Located in London, GB
Freyja Dorren, Projection, 2023, glazed earthenware- 54cm Height X 35cm Width
Unique piece.
Freyja Dorren, born and raised in Edinburgh and now based in London, is a recent graduate at the Royal College of Art Ceramics & Glass MA which follows a Degree in Textiles at Central Saint Martins. Freyja has always been influenced by the life of cities, exploring the marriage of old historical aspects of architecture with new and modern developments into our ever-growing cities. Her interest in architecture stems from taking walks through the city of London, discovering old classical buildings, brutalist creations and high-tech features all within a short distance walk from each other. This led her to create work that is a nod to the past and the present, with a graphic style and finish, combining the undiscerning elements of a city. Each piece she has created is influenced by interior detailing, deriving from places such as the V&A Museum and other historic landmarks within London. Freyja's textile print background enables her to transform the tactile surface to create a unique interwoven surface, giving a current relevance to the object, bringing a contemporary twist to each landmark detail, magnifying repetition, and significance of history when we design.
The starting point of this sculptural vase is Victorian architectural...

Colliery I, a Unique Black Abstract Textured Glass Vase by Bethany Wood
By Bethany Wood
Located in London, GB
'Colliery I' is a unique glass vase from the Molten Landscapes Collection by the British artist, Bethany Wood.
An equal passion for painting physically inspires how she controls and manipulates her glass. Recreating the fleeting nature of brush strokes, Wood’s molten colors traverse across the surface of her glass canvases blending in a myriad of hues. Unlike their flat painterly counterparts, these combine and merge, forming spontaneous watery and lava like abstract relief flourishes.
Taking inspiration from a wide range of sources, Wood’s influences are taken directly from the world around us, elements of the inner-city sit alongside expansive landscapes. Reoccurring themes are Graffiti & Urban Culture, exploration & travel.
In the artist's own words;
"As a multidisciplinary artist, I have begun to merge my two artistic passions, painting and Glassmaking. I like to express myself with the fluidity of the material. The Directional arrangement of a color palette can form the depth of an abstract Landscape. I use my own paintings as a reference whilst making in the hot shop. Each individual artwork from my series has been inspired by a specific place.
Serendipity of abstraction has always been an inspiration for me; the coincidental elements which catch the eye of the viewer. The palette, composition and depth I have attained are taken from nature, with a bold but elegant swipe of my own personal, Expressionist style"
Rising glass star, Wood graduated from De Montfort...
