Baroque Style Mantel Clock, Bronze and Black Slate, Bordeaux Maker, 19th Century

About the Item

A French early 19th century Gothic style black slate and bronze mantel or library clock of outstanding quality with gilt highlights, the case profusely decorated with swirling leaf and berry patterns, the body highlighted with male and female busts in medieval attire, the top decorated with two gilt finials and surmounted by a gilt highlighted two handled tazza, decorative bronze frieze to the base with swept feet. The black painted dial with gilt Gothic numerals and a highly decorative gilt bezel and surround, inscribed 'A. Pasques A Bordeaux'. The two train French movement is a very early Japy Freres movement with silk suspension, sounds the hours and half hours on a bell. The clock comes complete with its original key and pendulum This clock has undergone a total overhaul by our qualified Horologist and now presents in excellent condition.

    A very attractive French gilt bronze and ceramic mantel clock, profusely decorated with floral swags, flowers, ribbons, birds and masks and surmounted by a ceramic and bronze baroque style urn swathed in fruit and flowers. The original gilding in in extremely good condition with only very minor wear commensurate with age. The Chinoiserie themed enamelled porcelain plaques depict courtly scenes with a lady attended by her maidservants, an old man in a golden kimono, large-crowned chrysanthemums and birds.
