"Bending the Bow, " Fine Art Deco Sculpture by Henri Bargas

About the Item

Henri Bargas exhibited at the famous 1925 Exhibition in Paris that helped to usher in the style we now call Art Deco. Bargas created a number of sculptures in the tradition of Antoine Bourdelle, who collaborated with Ruhlmann, Dupas and other leading artisans and artists of the 1920s in Paris. Bourdelle and Bargas helped to popularize the depiction of heroic Greek-style nude figures demonstrating their strength and fitness in the pursuit of manly arts such as hunting, fighting or athletics.. This piece, in terra cotta, is finished with a handsome, thin white patina that gives it a strong antique appearance.
