20th Century Art Nouveau Pipe Smoking Man Sculpture by Austrian Hans Müller

Pipe Smoking Man figure early 20th century Art Nouveau Hans Müller bronze bust, a lovely dark patina figurative sculpture on marble base, signed on the left shoulter H. Müller. In the lower part the bronze figure features a mark with a triangle with letters BM in the centre and AFG at the corners, probably a foundry mark. The Austrian sculptor Hans Müller was born in Vienna Austria 1873. He was a pupil of Edmund von Hellmer at the Vienna Academy of Art and is best known for his busts of famous Viennese Society, he modeled a few animal sculptures mostly of hunting dogs. This bust was probably cast around 1910 at the height of the Art Nouveau movement. The bronze figures only, without marble base is 18 cm high. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago requires a governative license for export called Belle Arti.
