Large Edouard Drouot, Siot-Decauville Fondeur Paris patinated bronze sculpture of a youth enjoying an oyster. The young boy stands on a rock formation, leaning forward to avoid the oyster juices on his body, with his left arm raised to his mouth holding the mollusk in its half shell. Clad in just a loin cloth, with his right hand jauntily perched on his hip, the youth is intent on enjoying the sea's bounty emblematic of life's pleasures. Rare, wonderful subject in excellent condition with lovely original patina. Interesting conversational centerpiece for a seafood feast raw bar! Édouard Drouot, 1859-1945 was a French sculptor known for mythological and allegorical scenes. animalier and Orientalist subjects. He studied under the famed artist Mathurin Moreau at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1889 onward. Drouot’s work is in the collections of the Courtauld Institute in London.

    Fine hand carved oak figure of Saint Anthony of Padua Late 18th- Early 19th Century Saint Anthony is depicted with his head raised, mouth ajar, as if in the process of speaking. He stands upright wearing his traditional Franciscan robes and holding open a book. Beautifully carved with high level of detail, unusual for oak pieces. Oak is a dense hardwood which is difficult to carve and it's rare to see this level of detail in an early oak sculpture. Saint Anthony is the Patron Saint of lost things. While living at the monastery, he had a treasured book which contained psalms and personal observations. His book was stolen by a man who decided to leave the monastery and Anthony ferverently prayed for its return as the cost of a new book would have been beyond his means.
