About the Item
A monumental, rare, and highly important pair of Mintons Pâte-Sur-Pâte Peacock-Blue-Ground Vases, Known as 'Too Fast' And 'Too Slow' Produced in 1893, signed by Louis Solon. Shape number 3044, decorated by Marc Louis Solon, signed L. Solon in white slip, each of baluster form with a waisted trumpet neck, applied at the shoulder with gilt-heightened handles and decorated in white slip.
Too Slow, with a maiden with a fishing net amidst cherubs running and tumbling from a leafy stem, mending the net or bending lightning bolts amidst clouds, the reverse with three cherubs turning a winged wheel.
Too Fast, with a maiden hitting cherubs carrying snail shells on their backs and climbing a stem toward a heart suspended from a flowerhead, the reverse with a wreath of three cherubs emerging from snail shells holding a central heart, the necks with olive-green ground reserving scrollwork patterns, crowned globe MINTONS marks in gold, impressed MINTONS mark, date code for 1893. Marc-Louis Solon was the leading expert for the pate sur pate technique while working for Mintons. A very rare pair and in Excellent condition after almost 135 years,
