Georgian Hicks and Meigh Ironstone Plate in Floral Pattern No.8, Circa 1815

About the Item

This is a good ironstone side plate in hand painted floral pattern No. 8, made by Hicks and Meigh of Shelton, Staffordshire, England between 1812 and 1822, circa 1815. The plate is well potted with a notched edge to the rim. The plate has been well hand painted in bold enamels over a lightly printed outline in a beautiful floral pattern (their pattern no.8) which was also used by Spode Ironstone and looks very similar. Pieces by Hicks and Meigh in this pattern are illustrated on Page 256 in Geoffrey Godden's Guide to Ironstone, published by the Antique Collectors' Club The plate has a printed Royal Arms mark to the base with STONE CHINA and No. 8 below. This is a recorded mark used by Hicks and Meigh, as illustrated on Page 253 of the same book.
