Georgian Hicks and Meigh Ironstone Sauce Tureen Floral Pattern No.8, Circa 1815

About the Item

This is a good ironstone Sauce Tureen in hand painted floral pattern No. 8, made by Hicks and Meigh of Shelton, Staffordshire, England between 1812 and 1822, circa 1815. The piece is well potted with two side handles, sitting on four small feet and a flower head knob to the lid. The piece has been well hand painted in bold enamels over a lightly printed outline in a beautiful floral pattern (their pattern no.8), with gilded detail. This pattern was also used by Spode Ironstone and looks very similar. Pieces by Hicks and Meigh in this pattern are illustrated on Page 256 in Geoffrey Godden's Guide to Ironstone, published by the Antique Collectors' Club The tureen has a printed Royal Arms mark to the base which is fairly worn. This is a recorded mark used by Hicks and Meigh, as illustrated on Page 253 of the same book.
