Georgian Mason's Ironstone Side Plate in Vase & Rock gilded pattern, circa 1815
US$275.07

About
This is an early and very decorative ironstone pottery side plate or dish produced by the Mason's factory at Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, circa 1815.
The plate is circular with an attractive pie crust edge moulding to the rim.
This plate is beautifully and elaborately decorated in one of Mason's chinoiserie patterns, called "Vase and Rock" which is sometimes called Peking vase. The pattern is hand painted in detail, over-glaze in brilliant enamels of cobalt blue, burnt orange, green, yellow and puce all in varying shades, over a blue transfer printed under-glaze outline. Both the vase and the rock also have good hand gilded detail. This pattern is illustrated on Page 105 of Mason's Pattern book published by The Mason's Collectors' Club
The base has the circular impressed mark " PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA" which is recorded as being one of the earliest Mason's impressed factory marks indicating a date of circa 1813-1820, making this bowl one of the earliest pieces of Mason's, as Ironstone was only produced by them from 1813, which is late George 111 period.
This piece is in fine condition for its age and shows very little signs of wear.
