Keller & Guérin Luneville French Trompe L’Oeil Napkin Burgundy Asparagus Server

About the Item

An Aesthetic Movement French Faïence trompe l’oeil asparagus server, Keller & Guerin, Luneville – circa 1890-1900. A scarce example – a fluted edge burgundy colored plate with a “fool the eye napkin” lying across the surface, holding seven asparagus spears. The napkin is glazed in a celadon green with a checkered floral pattern, fringed at one end in cream and burgundy. The napkin extends beyond the round plate, adding to the dimensional mold. Book reference: ‘Artichauts et Asperge en Barbotine’ by Maryse Bottero, Pg. 13. 10.75 in. L x 10 in. W x 2 in. H The expected light wear. An old glaze slip on the underside of the napkin point, not seen to the front.
