Rare and Beautiful Wilhelm Kage Farsta Bowl

About the Item

Excellent hand thrown Kage Farsta stoneware bowl with interesting and nicely drippy matte finish yellow/ochre glaze. Hand signed and stamped, as shown. The world renown Wilhelm Kage (1889 - 1960) was a Swedish artist, painter and ceramist. He was artistic director of the Gustavsberg Porcelain Works, from 1917 until he was succeeded by Stig Lindberg in 1948. During his early career, he was a Pioneer in poster design, but was hired by the Gustavberg factory in 1917 to reinvent their dinnerware. His first artistic success was the Argenta series that included everything from ashtrays to massive urns. The most well-known Argenta finish is a turquoise green glaze with silver decoration. However, his best work is recognized to be the very exclusive and unique Farsta stoneware, which used locally sourced clay, innovative glazes and motifs. Farsta stoneware was produced from 1930 until his death in 1960. Today, his work is much admired, and represented in major museum and private collections around the world.
