Art Nouveau Glass Carafe With Silver Fitting, by Alexander Sturm Vienna

About the Item

Carafe made of clear glass with a conical body, the inside twelve-point, wave-shaped thickened wall, chiseled floral decoration with feathered leaves and vine leaves, silver fitting with cross ribbon, straight J-shaped handle, covered, beak-shaped spout, hinged, stepped, arched lid, olive knob as a thumb rest. Internal gilding. Dimensions: height: 27.0 cm / 10.62 in width: 15.5 cm / 6.10 in depth: 12.0 cm / 4.72 in Hallmarks: Diana's Head - Viennese official hallmark 1872 - 1922 for 800 silver Cloverleaf - master's sign of Sturm Vienna, Austria The Sturm Company: Founded in Vienna in 1883 by Alexander Sturm, born in Vienna in 1851. His clientele was primarily members of the emerging middle class of the late 19th century, such as Mautner Markhof, Kattus, Wittgenstein, Meinl, Manner, Piatnik, etc. Later also members of the imperial family are Storm's customers (Archduke Eugen, Archduke Franz Salvator or Archduke Leopold Salvator).At the beginning of the 20th century, the company employed a hundred people.
