Petitot, Circular Art Deco Chandelier, Nickelled Bronze Pink Frosted Glass, 1930

About the Item

Circular Art Deco nickelled bronze and salmon pink frosted glass chandelier dating from the 1920’s or 1930’s by Henri Petitot. A decorative, flush mount, conical canopy (ceiling mount at the top that serves to cover the electrical box in the ceiling) holds three elegant, nickelled bronze rods that support the glass body and 6 arms and lights. The body and « bobeche » (candle or light dish) are all in frosted salmon pink pressed glass. There is 1 « invisible » light hidden in the glass body and each arm and light dish is equipped with lights also. About Henri Petitot Henri Petitot was quickly recognized as an important designer and manufacturer of the Art Deco period. From the beginning of his career, he manufactured elegant bronze frames for the chandeliers, sconces, and lamp for his peers. The Muller Brothers in Lunéville or the Schneider firm, among others, used this talented craftsman to equip their art glass works with high-quality frames and many of the chandelier frames of these glassmakers bear the A.P. signature for Atelier Petitot. Later he designed his own glass works in collaboration with the Muller Brothers who supplied them to him. These chandeliers and sconces were mostly cubist in inspiration, sober and with geometric decorations that contrasted sharply with the floral decorations of other glass makers. Little by little, he made resolutely modernist chandeliers and sconces which definitively established his notoriety which continues today throughout the world. The chandeliers, which could take different shapes (oval, rectangular, octagonal), were made of bronze, sandblasted glass and glass rods and the bodies were elegant, modernist, and powerful. The sandblasted glass plate often had a clear edge which produced a warm light. The assembly of the chandeliers is often very ingenious, it combines the strength of bronze and the delicacy of the glass rods, judiciously placed on the various parts of the structure. We have been dealing in art, antiques, lighting, and vintage posters for more than 50 years. Upon request, we are very happy to provide you with Certificate of Authenticity.
