Gijs Bakker Umbrella Table Lamp for Artimeta 1973

About the Item

Gijs Bakker umbrella table lamp for Artimeta, The Netherlands 1973. This is one of the most iconic pieces by Dutch furniture and jewelry designer Gijs Bakker (1942) for Artimeta. It is a fun and interesting piece which obviously makes a reference to a photographers umbrella. In fact a real collapsable umbrella is used. A lightweight and fresh design, which is now almost fifty years old. Due to the size and presence of this lamp it will easily be a centerpiece in your interior. A great piece of Dutch design which comes in good vintage condition.

  • Poul Henningsen Ph 3½-2½ Table Lamp for Louis Poulsen
    By Poul Henningsen

Pouls Henningsen PH 3½-2½ Table Lamp. Denmark, designed 1928, new, current production. PH 3 ½-2 ½ Table was designed in 1928 and is one of many development projects undertaken by PH in connection with the development of his world-famous three-shade system. The table lamp is based on PH's original drawings, and comes with the first type of shade holder, with adjustment screws. The top metal shade has a rolled edge, a decorative and stabilising feature that makes the shade appear thicker than the actual material. The two bottom shades are made of mouth-blown opal glass. PH found that this combination utilises the light source more efficiently, directing the light downwards due to the reflection from the white inner surface of the top shade. The frame is brown painted brass giving the lamp the same appearance as the burnished brass lamps of the time – a process that is no longer recommended due to environmental considerations. Material: Top shade: Spun aluminium painted in yellow with a white rolled edge. The inside of the top shade is white. Middle and lower shade are mouth-blown glass. Shade holder: Silk matt...

  • Arne Jacobsen AJ Oxford Table Lamp for Louis Poulsen, 1963
    By Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen AJ Oxford table lamp 410mm in black and opaline for Louis Poulsen. Designed in 1963, current production. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp has a sleek graphic expression, which reflects the architecture of St Catherine's College, in Oxford, for which it was originally designed. St Catherine's College, inaugurated in 1963, was designed by Arne Jacobsen in a modernist architectural style, which stands in contrast with the surrounding classical architecture of Oxford University. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp was first designed as a table pin lamp for the impressive dining hall at the college, which housed long rows of oak tables, seating 350 people. The table lamps act as centrepieces on the tables, while natural light comes from clerestory windows and the wall-mounted AJ Eklipta provides diffused general lighting. The lamp is still found at St Catherine's College, which is still in use today, both for teaching and as a halls of residence for students. The AJ Oxford lamp...
