Pair of Acid-Etched Brass with Ebony Lacquer Dressers by Bernhard Rohne

About the Item

An exquisite and rare pair of acid-etched brass with ebony lacquer three drawer dressers / commodes by Bernhard Rohne for Mastercraft, circa 1970s. Covering each case are abstract designs in Rohne's signature surface treatment of acid-etched brass and black lacquer; brass trim and drawer pulls compliment the piece. The dressers are in very good vintage condition with appropriate patina to the brass pulls; each piece measures 31.5"W x 17.75"D x 26.25"H. They are a perfect size for end dressers in bedroom or for an incredible display piece in library or living room. #2923 I have two pair available on 1st Dibs. This set is in very good to excellent condition. The other set is in good to very good condition with some scuffing at the footboard and a few scratches in the acid designs (very hard to see). A sculptor and furniture designer, Bernhard E. Rohne was born in Peine, Germany in 1944 and emigrated to his current home, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1967. His primary mediums are copper, brass, aluminum and zinc metal sheets, which he etches and oxidizes. From them he creates decorative panels, furniture and accessories. He's also worked in enamels, stained glass and mixed mediums. His subject is primarily abstraction - colors, shapes and textures. His styles are Abstract Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction. His art education includes four years at Werkkunstschule, Hannover, Germany; as well as an earlier apprenticeship in painting and design. Rohne's work has been exhibited extensively in Canada, the USA, Great Britain and Germany; and an example of it, is in the permanent collection of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Gatineau, Quebec. He's also completed numerous corporate commissions.
