About the Item

Oil on canvas signed lower left 'Geo Gray'. A rustic spring country scene with a young couple fishing on the banks of a small brook. The river bank with daffodils and blossom trees, with far reaching views across a meadow with cows and ploughed fields. The painting is housed in its original period gilt frame which is in good condition. Whilst the painting is ready to hang, it does have light craquelure throughout the sky. There are two small patches verso which indicate there has been minor repainting to the top right quartile of the painting. Bears old Leonard Joel label verso. Established in 1919, Leonard Joel is Australia’s largest multi-department auction house.
