Fred Yates (1922 - 2008) Cheadle Hulme, Oil on board, signed lower right.
Provenance: Gift of the artist.
Cheadle Hulme is a suburb of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in Greater Manchester. The subject matter, which possibly depicts a working men's club, dates this work to the early years of Yates's career.
Frederick was an English artist who was inspired by the famous Manchester painter L. S. Lowry.
Yates painted pictures about the lives of ordinary people. His paintings portray sharp observations of people going about their daily lives painted with strong impressionist colours and expressive brushwork.
His paintings are included in many private and public collections including Brighton and Hove Art Gallery, Liverpool University, the University of Warwick, Torquay Art Gallery and Russell Coates Gallery Bournemouth.
