Marcel Mouly
A winner of two of France’s highest honors, the Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et Lettres in 1957 and the Premier Prix de Lithographie in 1973, artist Marcel Mouly was associated with Fauvism and found inspiration in the Cubism of Pablo Picasso and the intense colors associated with the work of Henri Matisse. He began his journey to stardom within the dark confines of a German prison cell during the Second World War.
While Mouly studied drawing classes as a youth, it was not until he was placed in solitary confinement that he decided to dedicate his life to pursuing art.
Mistaken for a spy during WWII, Mouly was traveling through Normandy when he was questioned by German soldiers about his identity. He was subsequently imprisoned by the occupying forces in France and was released in 1943. Once free, he met French artist Edouard Pignon, with whom Mouly rented famous sculptor Jacques Lipchitz’s Boulogne studio. Mouly studied under Lipchitz and had his first showing of two paintings at the Salon d'Automne, alongside French painter, Henri Mattise.
In 1948, the French government acquired his Femme à la Lampe, and a flurry of exhibitions followed in Italy, Sweden, Denmark and elsewhere. Mouly’s work is held in the collections of more than 20 museums including the Musée Nationale d’Art Moderne, the Museum of Modern Art, Bibliothèque Nationale and the Los Angeles County Museum.

- James C. Borden Large Cityscape Street Scene Watercolor Painting Cerused FrameLocated in Chattanooga, TNAbsolutely masterful watercolor street scene painting by James C. Borden (1928-2013). Prepare to be awestruck when you lay eyes on this exquisitely detailed watercolor painting by James Borden. The modern painting depicts an ethereal urban scene crowned with summer light. The scale itself is impressive at over four feet wide and three feet high (50.75? x 36.675?). There is just so much to see, so much texture, so many layers. Borden has truly mastered his medium. This is a watercolor cityscape on paper, housed in a cerused wood frame and protected by a pane of acrylic. The painting’s vibrant colors have beautifully preserved. The mastery of this painting is unreal. Borden’s orchestration of color leads the eye through the painting with late afternoon sunlight carving a path through an otherwise gray urban interior. His use of color is narrative. The viewer is being teased away from gloomy city life with a glimmer of sun and nature on the horizon. The nuance in his layering, through elevated passages of transparency… simply brilliant. Be sure to spend time with this painting. There is more to see each and every time you look. Did you notice the Easter egg? Borden used his name as the sign on one of the buildings on the left. The painting is pencil signed “Jim Borden.” James C. Borden studied at the School of the American Academy of Art in Chicago and was a life long painter. Mr. Borden spent much of his life in South Bend...Category

The ostentatious wall art encapsulates the decadence of the 1980s. Every trick in the book is used to gain your attention; scale, glitter, and gold. Massive white magnolias have rivers of gold glitter running through their veins. Take a close look at the white and mauve flower petals, the forest green leaves. Bands of gold run through all of the botanical elements. Flower stamens are bursting fireworks of gold glitter. It’s difficult to describe this unique piece of art. The flower image...Category
