1920s Rare Ermine Flapper Coat

About the Item

A truly magnificent coat made up of shiny, subtle skins, hand sewn together into diagonal designs with a wide band of fur wrapped around then hemline. It is so typically 1920s in styling with a huge shawl collar and wrap style body. It closes either with the collar looped up to keep you warm or with the collar laid out like a shawl and fastening with a large button and loop below the hipline. It is fully lined, has the original silk underarm shields and the fur is like new with no dryness, wear or bald spots. You usually see ermine furs in white so to find one in this gorgeous shade of reddish brown is extremely rare, and to find one in pristine condition and with such beautiful styling is nearly impossible. You usually see ermine fur coats and jackets in white, this is during the winter months when the animal is trying to blend in with the cold snowy areas from where they come. Then when the summer comes along they change colour again to blend in with their environment. During summer months they turn this absolutely gorgeous shade of reddish brown, but only for a few short months, making the making coats in this distinctive colour extremely rare, much rarer than their white counterparts.

  • 1960s Jeff Banks Clobber Black Velvet Hooded Coat
    By Jeff Banks
    Located in London, GB
This late 1960s black velvet hooded Clobber coat has a real autumnal, almost witchy feel. It features a high neck with button and loop fastening running all the way down the front, with each button embossed with a etched floral repeat pattern. The velvet itself is a very fine chenille, which has a lovely luminosity to it despite being charcoal black in colour. Though the main body of the jacket is unlined the hood is lined with soft black silky fabric, making it lovely and comfortable to wear. The coat flares out slightly at the waist, creating a classic Victorian, almost gothic style silhouette. This coat is in excellent vintage condition, with no flaws or marks to note. It is shown here on our size 6-8 model and would best fit up to a 8-10 UK, or 4-6 US. The influential designer was a pivotal member of the swinging 60s London fashion scene when he cofounded 'Clobber' in Blackheath Village, London, in 1964. The boutique carried both his own designs and the work of other designers and attracted celebrities such as Terence Stamp and Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and some of the Beatles. It proved such a success that in 1969, he launched his own fashion label, opening the first standalone Jeff Banks...
