About the Item

This captivating 1950s vintage bridal gown is an exceptional design and clearly takes inspiration from Grace Kelly's famous dress, worn during her wedding to Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956. Described as one of the most elegant and best-remembered bridal gowns of all time, the Helen Rose design has been emulated by other prolific designers, notably Sarah Burton's celebrated design for HRH The Duchess of Cambridge in 2011. This piece has beautifully elegant line and charm. The white cotton lace overlay has a delicate oak leaf motif and is delightfully soft to the touch, covering the dress in its entirety. The bodice and skirt are fully lined with sateen, and the skirt has a further lightweight cotton underskirt for additional volume. The feminine sleeves remain sheer and taper to a point over the top of the hand. The high collar neckline has attractive wing lapels and fastens above a lengthly central button stand hosting 17 round pearlescent buttons from the collar bone to the navel. The dainty waist is tapered to a point at the navel, and falls into a generous floor sweeping skirt, with a subtle trail to the reverse. There is a central metal zip fastening that runs from the mid shoulder blades to the base of the spine - we would recommend a modern replacement is inserted. The skirt has a modest line and we have opted to photograph this piece without slips, however further enhancement is achievable if desired should additional undergarments be worn. In wonderful condition albeit there is some wear to the hem on the lining of the skirt which is not visible beneath the overlay. There is a tiny thread of discolouration at the front hem which is only noticeable on very close inspection. Would best suit US size 0 - 2, UK size 6. NB there is considerable give in the hip due to the nature of the cut.
