Fashion has always taken inspiration from art in one form or another. For Marni’s Spring 2017 collection, Avant Garde creative director Francesco Risso—in more ways than one—took a sculptural and decorative approach to create a collection that may very well redefine the concept of wearable art. Emblematic of Risso’s artistic vision, this incredible dress takes ruching to the next level. As seen as look #11 on that season’s runway, this dress is done in a beautiful crisp and soft cotton. Featuring a print of small white and black flowers on a pastel yellow ground, the dress begins with an unusual ruched one-shoulder neckline that is secured with a cream rope tie at the neck. The dramatic, oversized right sleeve is ruched down the front of the arm, finishing with a rope tie at the wrist. The sleeveless left side of the dress has a revealing slit which reaches from the neck to the waist, bringing a welcome lightness and risqué element to this unconventional masterpiece. Size estimate: Small Size 38IT 2/4 US Bust: 34 inches Waist: 26-32 inches fitted with elastic Hips: 36 Length: 51- 63 inches Falling from a gathered waist to a midi-length several inches below the knee, the skirt features more ruching that curves from below the right hip down the center front of the skirt, finishing in a rope tie at the incredible front fishtail hem. The gathers at the waist and ruching at the neck and skirt create pleats throughout, giving this dress a sculptural, dynamic feel. Romantic and dramatic, this head-turning dress is the perfect choice for a spring wedding or special occasion. In excellent condition, this 2017 Marni dress is unlined and has a rope tie closure at the neck. Purchased from Bergdorf Goodman, the dress appears to never have been worn and comes with the original tags still attached.
