About the Item

Not only is this gown in remarkable condition, it features gobs of Victorian flounces, puffs and scallops while still being comfortable and wearable. Though its unusual larger size and ample derrière leave room for the traditional corset and bustle, they need not be worn to create a splendid Belle Epoque effect. Tea dress with gently trained bustle skirt, high neckline and leg o’ mutton sleeves. Bodice features deeply pleated panels of embroidered cotton eyelet inset with lace from shoulder to waist; scalloped eyelet trim at center bust, down arms and around waist seam. Trained skirt with sewn pintuck bustle, embroidered eyelet detail from hips to hem and scalloped bottom edge. Hidden rear placket with a series of hook and eye and button closures from rear neck to hips; unlined. fabric: cotton batiste, lace noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: repaired tear at right elbow seam, darned holes in shoulder, arms and rear hips; reinforced all buttons, hooks and eyes and seam strain at rear hip pleats condition: very good with above referenced repairs and a handful of pinprick holes throughout (see photos) measurements: neckline circumference: 14 ½” around (closed) x 1 ¾” tall shoulders: 17” sleeve length: 24 ½” from shoulder, 19” from underarm (including 2 ½” lace cuff) sleeve circumference: 18” at upper arm, 8” at wrist bust: 42” waist: 32” bodice length: 15 ½” from shoulder, 8” from underarm to bottom waist seam hips: free skirt length: 38 ½” in front, 42” in back from waist to hem total length: 54” from shoulder in front, 57 ½” from shoulder in back sweep: 180” train: 3 ½” label: no label present size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size medium
