Pretty in pink! And how! This fabulous 1960’s Elinor Simmons design for Malcolm Starr incorporates both a girlish innocence with a mod aesthetic so wonderfully typical of the era. The dress is designed with a modified empire waist in a heavy silk blend fabric that provides a stiff silhouette and the perfect backdrop for the embellishments at the bodice. And therein lies the real magic ... the bodice is intricately covered in a graphically inspired design of flat hot pink and powder pink plastic disks with a lattice overlay topped by sparkling rhinestones. The plastics are surrounded by gold & white braiding as well as two different shades of pink braiding all interspersed with mod creations incorporating white beading and silver sequins. The overall result is truly unique and shows a level of intricacy which is not often seen in current fashions. The dress zips and hooks at the back with a built in bow belt, collarless v-neck, inverted front pleat, hidden front pockets and full lining. It has been professionally hand cleaned and appears bright, crisp and ready to dazzle! CONDITION The dress is not in perfect condition though it is certainly wearable and sure to be the hit of the party for those that can overlook imperfections in their vintage. There are three fabric holes (two are small & one larger) on the left front panel 12" below the waist as shown in photograph 7. A total of seven rhinestones are missing including one at the bust on the left front panel (photograph 4), three on cuff end of left sleeve (photograph 12 with one hidden on underarm side) and three on right back panel (photograph 13). All other beading appears intact. There is a blemish to the fabric hidden under the left arm which was probably caused by friction with a rhinestone (photograph 14). The underarms on the inside lining are discolored though there is no discoloration on the exterior pink fabric ... there are no odors associated with these discolorations. There are inexplicable 'O.K.' pen marks on the designer label. It sounds like a laundry list but none of these flaws are what you really notice when taking in this dress. Personally, I am a big fan of the Malcolm Starr label and this is easily the most interesting example of Elinor Simmons work that I have seen to date. SIZING & MEASUREMENTS Marked a size 8 though it best fits a modern size 4 and would probably work for a size 2, as well.
