About the Item

London based designer Janice Wainwright dabbled in vibrancy and Victoriana. A mainstay on the British ready-to-wear stage during the later 1970s, Wainwright’s garments were known for their graceful fabrics and femininity. This golden-beige jersey slip dress with spaghetti straps has a beautifully draped columnar silhouette that combines the ornateness of the 19th century with the sleekness of the 1930s. The bodice is covered with a layer of embroidered lace that features a burgandy floret and golden geometric pattern. The hem is finished with a coordinating band of lace. The lace used in both pieces is designed with bands of embroidered zig-zagging burgundy dots, which create a cheery sense of order within the overall lace pattern. The close fitting neckline is edged with embroidered scalloping, and can be secured with a satin drawstring. An elegantly gathered yoke drops down to the upper bustline, forming a gentle curve around the shoulders and back. The remaining length of the jacket falls free to below the hip line, giving way to the true beauty of the lace. Wainwright cleverly introduces a slight bit of function with hidden slit pockets in the side seam. Slip a pair of strappy heels on with this slinky ensemble, or separate the pieces and combine with wardrobe mainstays for an eclectic look. Made from a synthetic satin, the columnar silhouette drapes with beauty and ease over the body. The upper bodice is layered with embroidered lace, and secures over the shoulders with spaghetti straps. Slit pockets are hidden within the dresses side seams. A narrow band of lace also completes the dresses hem. A coordinating lace jacket is designed with a gathered shoulder yoke and full-cut dropped sleeves. A drawstring satin tie fastens the jacket closed at the neckline. Both unlined pieces have been professionally cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year.
