American designer Malcolm Starr made a name for himself in the late 1960s and 1970s, creating elegant dress and coat ensembles that were a heady blend of demure femininity and commanding fashion. Often working in monochromatic palettes, Starr took his bright fashions far and wide during the 1960s and 70s, opening boutiques in Japan and Hong Kong. This green beauty features a spaghetti strap slip gown that coasts over the bust and hips with subtle fit. The double layer construction keeps the semi-opaque interior lining smoothly against the body, with the exterior layer of chiffon adding frothy movement to the ensemble. The garment closes at the side with a zipper. The essential drama of this ensemble owes its success to the chiffon cape, which is trimmed with a feathery blend of dyed ostrich and game feathers.
